“Grow your Business with International Partnership” Supplier Day

8th Dec 2014, investPenang together with partnering MNCs – Robert Bosch Power Tools, Motorola Solutions, Keysight Technologies and National Instruments hosted a seminar and business matching event between the local and foreign suppliers in the Electrical and Electronics industry, in conjunction with the efforts to encourage Penang base MNCs to enhance localization of their supplier base.


The event was officiated by the Rt Hon Mr. Lim Guan Eng, Chief Minister of Penang. A total of 264 participants from 159 companies participated in the event, including international participants from China, Japan, Taiwan, Singapore and Hong Kong. 

 

Ms. Loo Lee Lian, General Manager of investPenang shared on Penang’s recent achievements, Penang’s economic development, the promoted sectors and opportunities in Penang, the E&E and medical devices clusters in Penang, resources and assistance available to SMEs and the role of investPenang and CAT Centre. Pn. Wahida Abdul Rahman, Senior Deputy Director of E&E Industry Division of MIDA were invited to share on the investment opportunities and growth in the E&E industry in Malaysia, the investment policies, incentives available for the manufacturing sector and R&D companies, facilities available in Malaysia and the economic transformation programme. Speakers from the partnering MNCs were also invited to deliver a presentation on their respective topics as follows:

  • Dr. Hari Narayanan, Managing Director of Motorola Solutions Penang Operation- “Motorola Solutions Malaysia: 40 Years of Learning and Growing in Malaysia”
  • Dr. Lars Kabatnik, Managing Director of Robert Bosch Power Tools Sdn Bhd - “Global Competitiveness through Local for Local Approach”
  • Mr Kenny Soong, Materials Engineering Director of Keysight Technologies -“Our business nature and requirements”.
  • Mr. LH Tan, Senior Procurement Manager of National Instruments Malaysia Sdn Bhd shared on the background of National Instruments.

 

To nurture the growth of local players and help them move up the value chain, the business matching session served as a platform for collaboration between the local and foreign suppliers in the Electrical and Electronics sector, as well as to explore on possibilities of a joint-venture or strategic technology partnership. InvestPenang, MIDA, the 4 partnering MNCs and 38 supplier companies participated as exhibitor to discuss on opportunities available with the participants.

 

On the following event day (Dec 9, 2014), 24 international participants took part in a site visit to Batu Kawan Industrial Park.
